A Different Architecture for Vertical Flight

Exposed rotors remain the dominant solution for vertical lift. They also remain a source of danger to the people those aircraft are sent to help, and a liability in debris-rich or contested environments.

Emerald Aether One is under development as a deliberate alternative: a hybrid buoyant rocket VTOL built around a rigid lenticular monocoque, fully internal propulsion, and assistive hydrogen lift. There are no open rotors. The outer mold line is continuous. The buoyancy system is structurally independent of the airframe.

The platform is intended for insertion and extraction in places where conventional helicopters and tiltrotors become part of the problem rather than the solution.

The design is protected by a filed U.S. nonprovisional patent application. It is being advanced by Leonardo Maritime Aeronautics L.L.C., founded by a 100% permanently service-connected disabled U.S. Navy veteran.
